I am writing this post in order to be of service to my community. This is one of those questions that come up a lot. I can’t even begin to count how many DMs and messages I receive via Twitter and Facebook that basically ask me, how do I reach my customers? The answer to the question is simple: Be client-centric!
You should know your target market as well as you know yourself. You should know how they dress, what they read, how they speak, where they go, how they amuse themselves, etc. (Why do you think I work with veterans and military spouses?)
Once you know that information, you will know what advertising channels to use. You will know where is the best place to advertise because you know what type of material and magazines your market reads. You will know what public venues to speak at because you know where your target market gathers. You will know what you need to know to create an effective marketing plan that works for you and your business and reaches your potential customers.
Social Media Marketing is all the rage right now and there are literally thousands of “ninjas, consultants and gurus” that will happily take your money because it’s a “new, bright and shiny object.” However, here’s the thing: if your clients don’t use social media, how effective will a social media marketing campaign really be?
Get to know your clients. Ask them questions. Use surveys. Speak to them in person. Then, what type of marketing will reach them will easily show itself to you. It will be like seeing a single golden thread in a tapestry. The path you need to take will show itself to you.
